Police in Mombasa County have arrested a robbery suspect following an intelligence-led operation in the Ferry area of Likoni Sub-County.
The suspect was apprehended on Thursday, June 19, after law enforcement officers acted on information provided by members of the public regarding a suspicious individual spotted in the area.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers moved swiftly and successfully arrested the suspect during the operation. A search conducted at the time of arrest reportedly uncovered a panga concealed in the suspect’s waistband.
Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a robbery incident that occurred in the Maweni area, where a victim was allegedly robbed of a mobile phone. Detectives established a connection between the suspect and the crime, with the complainant later positively identifying him.
Following the arrest, the suspect was escorted to Likoni Police Station, where he was formally booked and placed in custody. Police said he remains in detention pending the completion of investigations and his arraignment in court.
The National Police Service praised residents for their cooperation and willingness to share information that helps security agencies prevent and solve crimes.
“The National Police Service commends members of the public for their continued cooperation and timely sharing of information, which aids in the prevention and detection of crime,” the statement said.
Police have urged Kenyans to continue reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or via emergency numbers 999 and 911. Members of the public can also provide information through the toll-free #FichuaKwaDCI hotline, 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.
The arrest comes as security agencies continue to intensify efforts to combat criminal activities in coastal counties and other parts of the country.
