A Form Four student from St. Alloyce Gonzaga School was killed in a tragic road accident along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi’s Lang’ata Sub-County on Thursday morning.
The female student died on the spot after the motorcycle she was riding to school was struck by a speeding lorry.
The motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he is receiving treatment. The student’s body was moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
According to Muguimo-ini Area Chief George Mukuria, the lorry, which was transporting construction sand and heading towards Mombasa Road, lost control, crashed through a guardrail, and plunged into the compound of Charles Lwanga School.
Police officers visited the scene and have launched investigations into the cause of the accident. Authorities also plan to tow the damaged lorry to Lang’ata Police Station for further inspection.
Residents have renewed calls for the installation of speed bumps and other traffic-calming measures along the busy Southern Bypass, saying speeding vehicles continue to pose a significant danger to motorists, pedestrians, and nearby schools.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
