Police in Kasarani are searching for Chief Inspector Agnes Ndanu, a senior officer attached to the Matungulu Division Police Headquarters, who is accused of pushing her 25-year-old girlfriend, Nicole Omondi, from the sixth floor of an apartment building in Nairobi’s Thome Estate.
According to Kasarani Police Station DCIO Aloyce Mboya, the officer’s senior rank within the National Police Service (NPS) will not shield her from investigations or prosecution if found culpable.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has also been notified and is expected to oversee investigations into the incident involving the serving police officer.
Nicole Omondi, who is currently admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) awaiting spinal surgery, narrated the events that allegedly led to the incident. She said the confrontation began after she and Ndanu returned home from a night out, where a male acquaintance had greeted her and appeared to express interest in her.
According to the victim, the encounter sparked jealousy, and once they arrived at the apartment, Ndanu allegedly went through her mobile phone, discovered text messages from another man, and accused her of being unfaithful.
Nicole alleges that Ndanu repeatedly struck her on the head with a glass bottle before dragging her to the balcony and forcing her over the edge.
Crime scene investigators who examined the apartment reportedly recovered blood-stained bedding and shattered glass, evidence that detectives believe supports claims of a violent struggle.
Investigators have also obtained phone records indicating that Nicole managed to make a brief distress call to her father during the alleged assault. According to investigators, when her father called back, Ndanu allegedly answered the phone, told him she was “disciplining” Nicole, and disconnected the call shortly before the victim fell from the building.
Medical personnel at Kenyatta National Hospital confirmed that Nicole survived the fall after her descent was partially cushioned by an iron-sheet roof and razor wire. However, she sustained severe spinal injuries that have left her paralysed from the waist down as she awaits specialized treatment.
The case has sparked widespread public concern, with reports indicating that Ndanu allegedly visited the hospital earlier this week but fled after being recognized.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect and have appealed to members of the public with any information regarding her whereabouts to report to the Kasarani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office or the nearest police station.
The allegations remain under active investigation, and Chief Inspector Agnes Ndanu is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
