The region of Western Kenya has long been a thriving one full of potential intelligence and culture. Nevertheless our region continues to perform below its potential on the national stage year after year and election after election. Why? Because personality politics tribal tokenism and temporary handouts passed off as development have allowed us to become divided. Observe the counties of Bungoma Kakamega Vihiga Busia and Trans Nzoia which comprise the broader Mulembe Nation.
We are still caught in cycles of underdevelopment despite the fact that each has its own resources and hardworking people. Our infrastructure lags years behind other regions our youth are unemployed and our sugar factories are having difficulties. In the meantime leaders are engaged in never-ending PR gimmicks and turf wars.

Being a voting bloc that is only recalled during election seasons is no longer an option. The region needs to unite its voice establish a clear development agenda and back leaders who not only make an impression in Nairobi but also perform well at home. In the fields of technology industry education and health we need leaders who are both fearless enough to question the status quo and realistic enough to implement meaningful change. What if the five county governors agreed on a single practical economic plan? Consider a Western Economic Bloc.
Together we could make this area a major economic force by investing in agro-processing ICT hubs improved roads and youth training initiatives. However that calls for self-control on the part of both voters and leaders. the ability to disregard meaningless rhetoric. resiliency in the face of tribal baiting. Additionally we must exercise discipline to hold those we elect accountable. Western Kenya has all it needs to prosper but it will require cooperation concentration and a respite from personality politics. If we make informed decisions we have the power to influence the future.
