Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has launched a fierce verbal attack on President William Ruto, declaring that the country has already lost confidence in his leadership and is simply waiting for his constitutional exit from office.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Wamuchomba accused Ruto’s administration of corruption, repression, and mismanagement. She said that Kenyans are no longer hopeful in his government, adding that “we are just allowing him to pack slowly and leave honourably through the Constitution.”
The legislator said Ruto’s government had looted public funds and that he should begin the process of returning the money to help fill economic gaps created during his tenure. “The solution for the period between now and 2027 is for William Ruto to return the money that his government has looted,” she asserted. “That money is needed to address the gaps crippling services across this country.”
Wamuchomba went on to criticize the administration for defunding key independent institutions that play an oversight role in government, including the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the Ministry of Health, and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). She insisted that Parliament must be allowed to fund these institutions without interference.
According to her, the government has not only failed to deliver on its promises but is also stoking public anger through economic strain and insensitivity to the suffering of citizens. “He has two years to restore this country and calm the anger of young people, to address the plight of pensioners whose funds have been slashed. We are giving him two years to return the country to its default mode before he goes,” she said.
She also took issue with President Ruto’s recent rhetoric, particularly his comments encouraging security forces to use excessive force on protesters. “You are not a village elder; you are the President of the Republic of Kenya. Whenever you open your mouth, you must be measured and speak with respect,” Wamuchomba said. “How do you refer to the citizens who elected you as ‘those people’? That is unacceptable. He must tone down.”
Her remarks come just days after President Ruto declared that no group would remove his administration through unlawful means or violence before the 2027 elections, stating, “This is a democratic nation and Kenyans will choose the nation’s leadership through the ballot. We cannot choose leadership through violence. That is not going to happen in this country.”
Wamuchomba’s statements are the latest sign of growing dissatisfaction even within Kenya Kwanza ranks, with a growing number of leaders speaking out against the government’s direction. With two years to the next general election, political pressure continues to mount on Ruto to address the economic and governance crisis engulfing the country.
