The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the broad-based government initiative spearheaded by President William Ruto and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), signaling a new chapter of political cooperation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Raila Odinga-led party announced that it will constitute a 10-member committee mandated to engage directly with UDA representatives to advance dialogue and coordinate joint policy positions in Parliament.
ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said the committee will comprise senior party officials and lawmakers, with a clear mandate to safeguard the party’s interests while facilitating collaboration on agreed national priorities.
“We remain committed to a broad-based government that reflects the diversity and aspirations of the Kenyan people. Our 10-member team will engage with UDA to advance bipartisan solutions on issues that matter to Kenyans,” Sifuna stated.
Political Implications
The move comes amid growing political realignments following the 2023 bipartisan talks and subsequent push by President Ruto for a broad-based government to stabilize the country’s political and economic environment.
ODM’s decision to formalize its engagement with UDA is likely to strengthen the Kenya Kwanza administration’s legislative agenda, particularly on economic reforms, constitutional reviews, and national unity initiatives.
Analysts suggest the 10-member joint framework may also influence the 2027 electoral landscape, as it signals a rare moment of collaboration between two parties that were fierce rivals during the 2022 general election.
