Fallen truck at Salama along Mombasa Road

Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys carefully today as heavy traffic and delays have been reported on several major highways across the country.

Mombasa Road (A109) – Salama Area
Traffic is heavily congested along the Mombasa Road section near Salama following an accident involving a truck that has fallen and blocked both lanes. The incident has caused a complete standstill in some stretches, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres in both directions. Authorities are on site working to clear the wreckage, but delays are expected to persist for hours.

Thika–Garissa Highway – MKU Graduation
Motorists heading to Thika or using the Thika–Garissa Highway are also facing significant delays due to the graduation ceremony at Mount Kenya University (MKU). Large crowds and increased vehicle movement have caused traffic to build up, particularly around the university and nearby junctions. Commuters are advised to consider alternative routes or adjust their travel times.

Mariakani – Weighbridge Section
Traffic is moving slowly at the Mariakani Weighbridge on the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, with trucks and other heavy vehicles contributing to the congestion. The slowdown is affecting both inbound and outbound lanes, and drivers are urged to exercise patience.
The National Police Service and traffic marshals have urged road users to remain patient, avoid overlapping, and follow directions from officers on the ground. Those with time-sensitive journeys are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible or delay travel until congestion eases.

Motorists are further reminded to adhere to road safety rules to prevent further incidents that could worsen the situation.
