Police in Lang’ata Sub-county are investigating an incident in which a 20-year-old man allegedly stabbed his father to death following a domestic dispute over the preparation of ugali.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Okello, 70, was killed at his home in Mugumoini location after a confrontation with his son, Peter Olwenye, over the cooking process of the staple meal.
According to witnesses, the dispute began when Okello questioned his son’s decision to start preparing ugali using water that had not sufficiently boiled. The disagreement reportedly escalated after the father challenged the logic behind the cooking method, triggering a violent altercation.
Mugumoini Senior Chief George Mukuria said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident and is suspected to have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
“The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the back and neck and died on the spot,” the chief said.
Following a manhunt involving village elders and local youths, the suspect was traced to a hideout in the Soweto area, where he was apprehended and handed over to officers from Lang’ata Police Station who were on patrol.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Nairobi Funeral Home, formerly City Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations as the suspect remains in custody awaiting arraignment.
