Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that club captain Martin Odegaard could be sidelined until after the November international break following his latest injury setback.
The Norwegian midfielder suffered a knee injury during Arsenal’s 3–1 win over West Ham United on October 3, making him the first player in Premier League history to be substituted before half-time in three consecutive starts.
Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Fulham, Arteta said the 26-year-old is recovering but remains weeks away from a return.
“It will be weeks. No definite date for his return, but he’s evolving well,” Arteta said. “It’s very unlucky, what’s happening with him and his injuries this season.”
Possible Return After International Break
Arteta suggested that Odegaard might only be fit after the November international break, depending on his progress in rehabilitation.
“It could be after the next international break, but we’ll have to see how he progresses, how the knee’s healing, and how he manages after the next steps in his rehab. It’s too early to give an answer,” the manager added.
Odegaard has endured a frustrating start to the season, having also battled a recurring shoulder problem that limited his early appearances.
Arsenal Top of the League Despite Injuries
Despite the injury setbacks to key players including Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, William Saliba, and Noni Madueke, Arsenal have maintained an impressive run of form and currently sit top of the Premier League, one point ahead of Liverpool after seven games.
Arteta praised his squad’s resilience and depth, noting that the team’s strong performances reflect their collective focus and mentality.
Arteta Backs Gyökeres to Deliver
New signing Viktor Gyökeres, brought in to strengthen Arsenal’s attack, has yet to find consistent scoring form. The Swedish striker has scored just three goals in 10 appearances and is currently on an eight-match goal drought for club and country.
However, Arteta expressed confidence in the 27-year-old, insisting that his overall contribution to the team has been excellent.
“He brings so much to the team, and watching the games back, I’m very pleased with what he’s given,” Arteta said.
“I told him before the first meeting: the No. 9 I want is one who can go six or eight games without scoring and still handle it. If you put the No. 9 shirt on for Arsenal, you have to deal with that pressure.”
Arteta added that he expects Gyökeres to start scoring soon once the team creates more chances.
“I want much more of the same from him. Once those opportunities come, put them in. I’m sure it’s going to happen,” he said.
Arsenal travel to Craven Cottage on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run and solidify their position at the top of the table before the upcoming international break.
