Angry residents of Kapkelelwa in Baringo Central have blocked more than 10 lorries belonging to Heynan Construction Company, accusing them of raising excessive dust that has disrupted businesses and threatened public health.

The lorries, which were transporting concrete dust from a nearby site, allegedly generated thick clouds of dust across the trading centre, forcing shopkeepers to close their businesses. Locals expressed concern that prolonged exposure could lead to serious health risks.

“We cannot continue to suffer while they profit. The dust is choking us and driving customers away,” one resident said.

The community is demanding that the company regularly water the road to suppress the dust before transportation resumes. They warned that unless their concerns are addressed, they will continue to block the trucks.

The standoff highlights growing tensions between local communities and construction firms over environmental safety, with residents insisting that development must not come at the expense of their health and livelihoods
