President William Ruto has dismissed the growing “Ruto Must Go” chants across Kenya, labeling them as mere political noise with no substantive impact. Speaking at a burial in Siaya County, Ruto likened the chants to similar slogans from past administrations, stating, “There was Moi must go, then someone else must go, and another one again… this is just an ordinary song, there is no problem.”
Despite the chants gaining traction in various public events, including sports gatherings and social media platforms, Ruto remains unfazed. He emphasized his focus on national development, highlighting sectors such as education, infrastructure, electrification, and devolution as his administration’s priorities.
While the president downplays the significance of the protests, some political figures view them as indicative of deeper public dissatisfaction. Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, for instance, has suggested that the chants reflect unresolved issues that the government must address.
As the “Ruto Must Go” slogan continues to resonate among certain segments of the population, its potential to influence Kenya’s political landscape remains to be seen.
