President William Ruto has launched a scathing attack on his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of failing to deliver during his five-year tenure as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency between 2017 and 2022.
Speaking during an inspection of the Karabok-Adiedo road in Homa Bay County, Ruto claimed Gachagua did not sponsor a single motion or Bill in Parliament and contributed little to debates.
“He was in Parliament for only one term; he didn’t bring even a single motion, no Bill—five years wasted,” said the President.
Ruto further accused Gachagua of promoting ethnic division and discrimination, describing him as a leader with no credible track record or development plan.
“A person who has no track record at all is now going around to churches and funerals spreading tribalism. I am telling that person of the ‘unclean spirit’—he will get no chance in the Republic of Kenya,” Ruto said.
He also criticized Gachagua’s performance as Deputy President, citing alleged mismanagement in the coffee sector, extortion of farmers, and weak leadership in curbing illicit alcohol in Central Kenya.
The President extended his criticism to other opposition leaders, arguing they lack a clear vision, development agenda, or actionable plan for the country. He dismissed the United Opposition’s claim of being an alternative government, insisting Kenyans want leaders who can deliver tangible development.
Meanwhile, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga defended her cooperation with the President, highlighting development achievements under his administration and contrasting them with limited progress during the handshake government.
Earlier in the day, Ruto attended an inter-denominational prayer service at Agoro Sare High School before visiting Oyombe village to launch several development projects. These included the construction of the Adiedo-Karaboko road linking Kasipul and Karachuonyo constituencies, the establishment of a Sh250 million fishermen’s rescue center on Lake Victoria, procurement of a Sh70 million rescue boat, and a Sh2.4 billion initiative to connect 26,000 households to electricity.
Ruto was accompanied by CS John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, former Homa Bay Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, among other leaders.
